- “Image, Eye and Art in Calvino contains the proceedings of a conference held in Copenhagen in 2004. . . . The conference (and this volume) aimed to investigate what could be considered a critical commonplace in reference to Calvino's work: its ‘scopic’ outlook, its visual dimension, and the over-imposing power of Calvino's structuring gaze on phenomenal reality, following what he himself discussed in his critical texts about imagination and ‘visibility’, mental mapping, and the rational description of reality. . . . The structure of the volume follows the tripartition of the title, with the first and third parts, ‘Image’ and ‘Art’, being the most cogent and interesting in terms of pertinence and originality of the contributions. . . . As always happens in conferences with a broad critical and interdisciplinary scope, some of the contributions fall a bit off-target.”
