- Abstract
- This article focuses on the book "Requiem: A Hallucination," by Antonio Tabucchi. Work by well-established modernists Tabucchi, continued to appear and still have a youthful vigor and spirit. Initially, Tabucchi's work, with its brief, concentrated, fable-like quality, brings to mind Italo Calvino's fiction. Yet as one reads on, the parallels drop away. Whereas Calvino produced fiction that read like tightly controlled prose poems, Tabucchi creates stories that are elliptical puzzles, not so much concluding as trailing off-they appear to end just when the reader hopes that they will continue.
