- This article presents information on the work's of author Italo Calvino. Invisible Cities, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler and Mr. Palomar are considered small masterpieces of modern fiction and Calvino was mentioned frequently for the Nobel Prize in Literature until his sudden death in 1985. But on this side of the Atlantic, much less attention has been paid to Calvino's early work, especially his short stones and first novel, The Path to the Nest of the Spiders, published in, 1947 when he was only 24. Audiences interested in neorealism, Calvino-style, will get a small but sweet taste of the author's work in the new film Palookaville.
